Project description

Albania’s cultural and natural heritage is playing an important role in the social and economic development of the country. In particular, museums, archaeological parks, historic cities and other cultural sites as well as natural landscapes are well-poised to be leveraged for sustainable tourism development but these resources need to be further enhanced and preserved in order to fully realize their potential.
Against this backdrop, the Project for Integrated Urban and Tourism Development (PIUTD), funded by the World Bank, supports the Government of Albania to develop the economy and improve living conditions in its southern region by financing infrastructure projects in the urban centres, among others, of Berat (part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of “Historic Centres of Berat and Gjirokastra”) and Përmet.
The purpose of this assignment is to develop integrated urban design concepts in the two cities, based on a clear and shared development vision, identifying an investment program, developing preliminary and detailed designs and bidding documents for the implementation of select priority projects.
The total cost of investment projects is 20 million USD (15M USD for Berat and 5M USD for Përmet).

Scope of services
